How long should a 1600 twin port last?

  1. As its now snowing again and my camper won't be coming out this weekend. I'm bored! So...... My vege recon has clocked up about 26000miles now. No end float. Feels nicely run in. Anyone got an high milers?

    I have no idea how old mine is my mate gave it me it had been in the corner of his dads yard for at least 15yrs covered in rubble and soil.

    depends on the build quality and how well its been looked after i suppose......and a shed load of good fortune!

    I think the art to owning/driving an aircooled engine is understanding the nature of the thing in order to keep it cool, keep it cool keep it going.
    In modern cars people tend to run in the highest gear possible for fuel economy, if I drive up a hill I tend to slow down and run a higher gear to spin that fan and keep her cool.
     
  5. Yeah I fitted an oil temperature gauge last year and that helps you understand how they work.

  7. Not necessarily. I found that the oil temp gauge allowed me to understand what "normal" was over a period of time. Once I understood that, then the oil temp gauge was quite a useful thing.

  8. It didn't really. I fitted it with the thought that I ran it fine without knowing any temps! I'm surprised how quick they cool in traffic. Say stopping on the motorway, the temp soon drops and takes a while to come back up.
