How does the curtain wire fit in a Westy Continental?

  1. Hi, I am trying to fit all the bits and pieces back on my bus as they were from the factory. It is a bit of a mystery though as I didn't take it apart.

My latest challenge is fitting the curtain wire along the bottom of the windows, I am unsure how it fits. I know there are eyelets at the end of the wires (see photo) and screw holes in the metal work, but how are they fitted? Are hooks screwed into the interior body work for the eyelets to hook onto, or screws and washers used for a more permanent fixing.

    Photo's would be greatly appreciated.

Just screws. There is a clear plastic clip thing halfway along the one opposite the sliding door, where both windows are covered with one wire.

Or with washers. Whatever works and looks nice. :)

  4. Like zed says. Screw through the eyelets at the end of the wire into the bus. The get hidden by the curtain when you don't have the curtains drawn.

  5. The tricky bit however is securing it to the bodywork at the rear of the wardrobe cabinet. Poke the wire through to the back and screw that on first. It's a lot harder if you have to stretch it first. You won't need to take the cabinet out as I was previously told.

  6. So I don't need to take the wardrobe out?!?!?!?! How doe I manage that then? It seems it has to come out anyway to fit the upper rail. I am really after what size and type of screws were used originally. I have a box of screws etc to refit my interior but not a clue of where they all go, as I did not strip it down and I don't have photos of the interior.

  7. Any pics of the box of screws you have?

You can see how the curtain rail and the springy wire thing attach through the pigeon holes in the wardrobe. The wire has a cup washer on it.
I can't quite recall how the rail goes in but I seem to remember you have to slip the curtain on first, push the rail to the back and screw it on. Then you line up the curtain getting it nice and tight and screw the wire through the bottom. The curtain behind the cabinet is permanently tight and hides the back of the cabinet as viewed from outside.

  9. Have just redone mine today and had the screws and so took some photos measurements.

Screws are 15mm long, with a 8mm head.

There is one of these in the middle:

And the end looks like this - shame about the scratches on mine - will fix that one day!

    Hope this helps.

  11. Sorry folks still not got it right.

  12. Wow, thanks for your help Andyv and PeaSoup. That is spot on. I just need to rummage around in my box of bits to see if I have enough of these screws to fit the wires.

    Thanks again.
