yeah, probably a really daft question, if you've done it before, but I haven't just wondered how you get the window winder handles off - can't see a circlip behind the handle, no screw holes or plastic caps to prize off ?? thanks.
the winder handle has an all in one cover. it's a plack plastic cover that covers the entire handle. you need to prise it off at the big end and you can then move it enough to get to the screw underneath.
You have the central rubber bit - that leads off to the bar that has the rotating knob that you wind with. On the central bit, opposite the arm, prize the rubber covering off, or up towards you, there is a screw behind it.
Or buy some JK heavy duty ones which will just come off in your hand (had em for years and didnt fit em so now they are some landfill somwhere.
I find you need to loosen the screw then tap it firmly with a hammer to crack the Araldite that holds them on. At least thats what I need to do when I Araldite the b***rds on because they keep falling off.
What no one tells you is, with the handle at 6 or 12 o clock on the part that you prise off there are 2 notches in the under body at 3 and 9 o clock. Get a small screwdriver in these and it ll pop off nicely.
Or you could just cut out the middle man so to speak, don't bother with winders, just use a brick! .........mind you, you're a bit stuck if you want the window closed again.
No problem. It took me a bit of head scratching when I first tried to take mine off. I didn't matter how much I tried to prise the centre cap off it wouldn't budge, it was only due to the effort I was putting into removing it that the whole cover moved.
