How Do You Fix Wobbly Interior Door Handles?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by BayWatcher, Aug 16, 2011.

  1. If you've ever had your door panel off then you've seen the unusually shaped plastic,... nuts (?) that the door handles screw into. They are a smooth white plastic or nylon that are built into the door.
    Mine are stripped.
I even tried filling them with caulk before screwing the handles back on, but it's that slippery plastic that no caulk or glue will stick to. I suspect it's the same material as the water tank. Have you ever really felt that? It has an oily slippery feel like a Teflon skillet.
Do you know where I can get replacements or do you have any ideas?
    Thank you for your time.

  2. Drill the holes out slightly bigger and slot rawl plugs in?

  3. I had my panels off at the weekend and never looked at these, do you have pics ?

  5. My missus is American and she says she knows them as wall anchors

  9. Let me know if it works dude as it was just an idea from the top of my head

  10. You could always fashion a nut from some nylon (plastic) and tap new holes in, it's quite easy to grind to shape with a dremel type power tool.

  11. if the rawplug /wall achor does nt work try and get some rivnuts "a rivit with a nut in it "if you go to any industrial fixing stockests and ask for 2 or so they will probably give you em "i do this all the time got a load of seat belt bolts the other week

  13. That's a lot of great ideas, Guys. Thank you all. I am confidant that at least one of them will work.
Good job with the cable tie idea. That is the simplest of them all and it sounds like it might actually work. I will start with that one. Thanks again!
