how do you cut back paint after rattle can job

  1. Hi all,

Tried to paint the lower 12 inches or so of my bus as the previous colour didn't match particularly well.

Got a couple of rattle cans mixed up (solid colour, L61B Sumatra Green) and done the spraying.

The colour is a really good match, but I could not really get much of a gloss and there is always a 'fuzzy' bit at the edge of the bit i'm spraying.

I have tried cutting it back with 1000 grit wet&dry and some ordinary polish (haven't got any cutting paste).

What do i need to do to cut in back properly - I assume I will need some proper cutting paste, but will this give me more of a shiny finish?

    thanks

  2. leave it to cure properly.....which may take anything up to a fortnight outdoors.....then use Farecla G3 cutting compound either on a damp rag, or a damp polishing mop....this will take the paint back to a flat, slightly glossy finish.....use a softer polishing compound to improve the finish and then buff out with a good quality wax...Carnuba is fantastic but expensive....autoglym super resin polish is good

  3. the paint has to be thick enough to cut back without becoming too thin....it also has to be hard cured (ideally)

  4. thanks vanorak, but don't you have to cut the paint back with wet&dry first?
