How do I remove clutch return arm?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by carlperkins001, Aug 27, 2013.

  1. I'm trying to replace the clutch return spring on my gearbox, I've removed the circlip on the end of the arm, but the actual arm won't come off? The end looks like its slightly mushroomed?

    Any ideas?

Over theyears the circlip can cause a burr that makes it difficult to get off. Might be this?

  3. Should the arm literally pull straight off after the circlip is taken off? Might need some oil and a tap

Yes it should but it might have been there for 40 years...

  5. Can you not get a small puller on it?

  6. From past experience earlier this year which ended up in me knackering the cup washer that holds the spring, I needed a small puller which I got from machine mart, takes some carefull work. I also then ended up with a new clutch operating shaft. Good luck!

  7. Managed to get the arm off!

    2 more questions...
There was a plastic washer inside the cup washer.. But it had disintegrated, do I need it. And if so where can I get it..

Also is there a trick to getting the spring on? I can't figure out how I'm going to put it on.

  8. mine didn't have the plastic washer inside the cup. Again, the trick to getting the spring on is shear determination! Its obvious how it should fit just hard work, I think I used a screwdriver as a lever in the end. Skinned my finger to the bone (literally) doing this, persevere, its satisfying when its back together.
