I have done a little refurbish of the dash , and am near to the point where i can refit it . Before i bought the van it has been fitted with lots of new panels including most of the front How do i now attach the dash to the front , it was previously attached only by 2 screws at either end in in the door post area , but there is clearly a series of holes on the dash just under the window are but nothing to fasten it to , am i missing some brackets? if so are they available or do i need to make some also the holes in the dash seem pretty big , what screws.bolts would i use in those holes ?
The dash holes look normal, there should be a bracket for each screw hole on the panel beneath the windscreen, they are pressed as part of the original panel but yours are missing, they are just small approx 25mm wide pieces of angle, you will need to make them and either weld or pop river them in
The new inner panels don't have the brackets welded to them, you have to fabricate them up - we bought a genuine vw one from Heritage, found the exact problem, rang them & that was the response!
I will have to take a visit to b and q or the like I'm sure that they will have something that I could adapt rather than make from scratch I would probably be best pop riveting them on Any ideas about the style of fixing bolts /screws
To have more chance of it all lining up, the og's used spire clips and self tappers. Early ones had two long brackets, later had a row of short ones.
Looks as though some L shaped brackets riveted on will be my best or should i say easiest option . There are 8 holes on the dash but i will only be able to fit 2 bracket on each outer end , otherwise i would need to remove the wiper motor and the associated mechanics ZED. I dont know what a spire clip is ? I do now .... Thank you google pics
Remove the wiper motor and associated mechanics then? If it rattles irritatingly as you drive along you'll wish you had...
your 100 percent right , then i get chance to lubricate it and check it over talking or rattling , my thoughts are perhaps a trim fitted to the edge of the dash where it meets the window frame would be good to stop annoying squeaks and rattles
