How are you storing yours for the Winter?

  1. Hi all, I don't know if there's an existing post for this, but I wanted to set one up so people can get tips for storage over the winter if that's what you choose to do.

I bought a camper cover from JK and start it regularly, however as I've SORN it I cant take it for a spin to prevent any ceasing.

Ive read some opinions that its best to let air out of the tyres to avoid flat spots but Ive also read to inflate them to do the same thing so i dont know what to do, does any one have any experience in this?

Im also looking for any other tips to beat the winter as I can't afford a rented space inside for him, outside is really the only option (unless one of you kind people know of or have any garage space on the Sheffield/Chesterfield area that I could rent at a reasonable price?)

So does anyone have any other tips for winter storage?

    Thanks chaps and chapess's!! O0 O0 O0

  4. Nope - probably why its costing me an arm and a leg to have it welded. Need to do something, perhaps a car port!

I just bung it in the garage and if I remember I disconnect the battery.
    Simples!
If using a cover, make sure you open it up to give the van an airing regularly or the interior will go mouldy and the outside will rust.

  6. If you can't drive it, put it up on axle stands to take the weight off the tyres. Or jack a corner at a time and rotate the wheel every now and then.

  8. in the garage, hand brake off, windows open a little, i will remember to start it sometime and give it a nudge every so often so the tyres move around

  9. Mine will be on the drive I have a cover but don't think I will bother it will have a run out every so often when I can afford to put fuel in it, I would leave the handbrake off if you can and put it in gear and run it up to temperature occasionally and if you are not going to open it up you could put some bowls of salt or rice around to absorb the damp in the air :)

  10. in summer i take side tarps out ,in winter stick um up if really bad still use van in winter on good days :)

  11. Putting mine in my dads garage so I can pull out the engine, sort that out. Fix and paint the engine bay and finish all the bits on the underside I never got round to.

  12. Both are in a nice big space.Started now and again.Roll forward, roll back just for a smile ;D

  13. I bought some of those silica moisture traps off amazon put one in each cupboard. I just keep the tyres up to pressure and take it for a run up the m60 once a month to get the moisture out of the engine casing. I also spray the rubber flexi stuff with silicone lubricant ( was told this is good for preventing cracking of the CV joint covers when not used).

Christ almighty! It's only for a few months - just park the bugger and disconnect the battery... I regularly left mine on the drive for that long without even the battery disconnection and nothing bad happened. lol

  16. In a friendly local farmers warehouse with JK cover on. Don't plan on seeing it again til march. Will it have rusted in 5 months, we'll find out.

  17. Actually mines under a sort of car port but there's a lot of trees around so I keep my eye on leaves on the roof.
Otherwise they collect in the gutters and block the drain holes at the back and water sits in them.

  18. Hattie is tucked up nice and safe in a caravan storage place in Doncaster. Will probably fetch her back late March time (if it's not snowy). We disconnected the battery, and are prepared for a few goes to start her (like last year, but the starter motor has since been replaced so should be a lot easier). Won't even see her to give her a Christmas present!

mine will go into the warehouse where i work like last year, the difference this year is i will keep it driveable, it's just somewhere to keep it from the damp and ice etc really as it sits in the open on my drive usually, last year it went in on breaking up day 24 dec i would imagine the same will happen this year.

  20. i am going to dismantle mine and put it under the stairs :D
