Horn button

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by arrowgb, Jul 5, 2014.

  1. So, my bus has had its horn moved to a switch due to a chaffed wire in the column.

I have reinstated the earth wire up the column but am not sure how the main feed goes..... Does anyone have some pics or other of how to wire it up correctly?

As I understand it a 24V goes directly to the horn. You then run an earth up and down to the horn side......

    Cheers for any assist

    Thanks

So did some research and this seems to make sense (thanks j mais)

So it is a switchable earth. The column is insulated and you earth it out with the horn button. My tab has broken off however, so think I may use a rivet or similar

  3. It is - the earth of the horn is switched - although they improved the arrangements on later busses to avoid having to insulate the inner and outer columns. Presumably, yours has the plastic collar at the bottom of the column?

Well worth restoring the original horn button!

  4. I need to look..... I plan to see if the column is insulated to earth which should prove it either way..... Just need to figure out how to replace the little tag that snapped at the bottom.... Hoping a pop rivet and a ring tongue might work
