hook up kits and scene tax

  1. been thinking about buying a kit rather than individual bits as i thought it may be cheaper (?). during my search i came across this site selling the kits for nearly £30 cheaper than JK (unless postage is really expensive!)

I can't see any difference other than the price. is this just "scene tax" for us older bus types?

  2. Looks just like the kit I bought but I'm not an electrician so i couldnt swear to it - It does seem to be all there though :)

  3. It certainly appears to have all the right bits. As for price looks good in fact I think I paid a lot more than that a few years back for the same components.
"Scene tax" well to be diplomatic their overheads are probably higher and endeavouring to be a major player ie one stop shop could mean that some prices are pitched at what they think the market will stand whereas others may be less than competitors.
I believe the biggest advantage of being of being a one stop shop is customers get to use you out of habit and are less likely to notice when some prices are higher than elsewhere...the proverbial whilst I'm here I might as well buy etc. So the moral to all of it is shop around....as you have done.:)

  4. Take that picture down to your local electrical wholesaler and get them to price it all up for you.

  6. I would deffo get this kit, I've got most of the bits & have recently paid £34 for the consumer unit which I thought was cheap, I have easily spent more than £57 this sourcing bits & bobs from all over the place which amounts to that kit!

I use the same kit and that is a very good price and it uses correct 2 pole mcbs that jk and others don't
I might get my bits from them as i pay more from the wholesaler.

  10. i was looking at individual sourcing too but this did seem cheap for the same stuff.

  11. still a saving though. jk charge a fiver.

  12. Pick it up chick, they're only in Market Harborough just outside Leices. Get it on way to Tekenders & fit it on site :)

I've just raided our electricians van & got the remaining bits I need :)

  13. didn't realise that! i was taken in by the surfy theme and assumed they were coastal.

it's still an hour away so prob best to pick up en route.

  14. :D lol, I only know about them because before Molly found us my original intension was to buy a T5 van and convert it myself & they seem to specialize in the modern stuff and are pretty local to me living in Leicester.

  15. Looks a good price. As Robo says the consumer units are a big chunk of the cost.

  16. Installed my hook up today, it went well & I rigged up a lead from the house to test & it didn't go bang bang!

I nicked some bits off my electrician that made the job a lot easier, it's a plastic flexible trunking with threaded connectors at each end, the cable then runs inside it, it worked very well, forgot to take pics so I will take a few tomorrow morning & post them up...

  17. yay, get some pics up. great news about not going bang - always a bonus when things don't. :p

am hoping to get a kit before techenders and do it there with competent grown ups around (they may take some tracking down :p).
think i may be cutting it a bit fine as not ordered yet. oops.

  18. There is a fella on eBay selling CUs configured to your needs for about £15ish. I got the dual pole RCD plus a 6A and 16A MCBs.

    Item number: 251186740919

Got the plug unit from an online shop, forget where and the cable and sockets from b&q
