We are currently using a hive system, with TRV’s on all rads, except the bathroom. The thermostat is at the bottom of the stairs. Our front room often seems colder than the rest of the house, even with the TRV turned up full. A relation has recommended getting a “smart” TRV for this room. But my question is, if the thermostat is set for a lower temperature than the “smart” TRV, will the TRV override the thermostat if the temperature reaches target there, but is still below target at the TRV? I think I’ve explained that correctly.
Fitting a different trv in that room won’t make the slightest difference. Smart or not as the one you have is fully open and the room is still cold! 1. is the radiator in the lounge actually hot enough? 2. If you turn the room stat up high, and all the other room trv off. Does the rad get hotter? My guess is that your system needs balancing correctly or that rad needs attention. Or you have a very drafty lounge.
Make sure that TRV is not stuck shut- if you leave them wound down for long periods, sometimes they corrode closed, when the pin on top of the valve stays down regardless of how much you wind the temperature up. And bleed the radiator too, check it gets hot quickly and evenly top to bottom as the heating comes on.
I’ve had this with a few of mine , I have to wind them back and forth with a slight tap to free them up but they eventually submit. Might be something to do with the leak sealing stuff I put into the system last year
Nah. To be honest, it’s the wife who is cold, not me, and her sister recommended the Hive TRV. As long as I can tell her that I’ve investigated the option, it’s job done. Thanks for all the negativity
