Hello all, Just gonna keep this short, I am not an official owner as yet but have a 79 Bay on its way to me. Its a bit of an ongoing project from the previous owner but all the "naughty" bits have been carried out - new panels where needed, welding elsewhere and fully re undersealed - I've just got to sort the rest. I know slightly more than nothing about the aircooled era, only worked on 1 Beetle many years ago, so any help and advice will be greatly received. Now, here is the "lets throw him off the site" statement - its having a heart transplant in a few weeks as the aircooled 2.0 was only bin worthy and its having a 1.9TDi engine from a VW popped in there. Paint will be as the era dictates - 2 tone, lower being turquoise and the upper being blue / white - unless she changes her mind again!! Currently just outside Peterborough and don't know of any groups / meets / etc so if there are any then please let me know. Cheers all.
Hello and welcome, im also from Whittlesey, over near the water tower. Theres a few on here from the Peterborough area
Hello & Welcome from The Colonial Contingent Don't worry about the engine, there are plenty running around with all manners of conversions.
Hi, and thanks for the welcome. Glad to know there is someone pretty much on my doorstep Matt, may have to pick your brains about different things, I'm just near Sir Harry Smith School. Glad I wont be kicked off for not being Aircooled!!
Excellent, cheers again Matt, always been into my Dubs but of the later flavour - Golfs / Jettas / etc Here it is - has had more work carried out since this pic but you get the idea!
Quite possibly, I tend to look out for proper cars!! I have a Mk4 Jetta / Bora, not sporty in the slightest but its a family car with the required space!! lol The engine for the Bay is coming out of a Mk4 Golf - non PD unit 110bhp affair but may soon be close to 200bhp just for kicks!
Cheers Art B - its currently has a Scooby lump in it but have respectfully asked him to remove it!! Like a previous forum for a previous vehicle Pyro, they used to state "" So, I will be posting a few snaps as and when I remember
Should be ok to haul the bus then. This project will definitely not be a cheque book affair and it will take its time but me and the Mrs to be will be treating ourselves to this instead of a honeymoon and then go away without the kids for a week or 2 in it prob in a couple of years.
Hiya Womball, I will do, moved from Slough last year and dont really know anyone up here apart from the future outlaws!! If you are interested in a conversion lump then shout - my mate is a VW breaker - along with all the other specialists I know, eg loom builders with genuine plugs and proper lengths on cable, like Wolfsburg made them!! Will def keep you posted with the build though - in another thread I would imagine, still looking around forum to find what goes where!!
