Hello from an ex pat, new member now living in Christchurch New Zealand. Just bought our first Kombi, a 1979 Westfalia bus from California. With the earthquakes it’s been a worrying time getting it here. Here’s what she looked like at the shipping company in Los Angeles
Welcome aboard fella, she is a beautiful looking bus, that can't possibly be the original paint can it???
Thank you for all the warm welcomes. Will have to start a thread in "show us your ride" section. Since arriving in NZ have sorted out a few issues out, like converting the electrics, new seat coverings.....though some not that happy with i.e brought over with the bus some made up front seat covers from someone on EBay USA (bustfactory) which don't fit that well. Re-gluing some of the laminates and putting in some new cabinet trim etc. Still more things to do, like door seals and front carpet, recover some inside panels etc. It was supposed to be totally rust free.......!! found some, mainly in the battery tray, so will have to sort that out. Have already scraped back, POR15 'd and put a piece of plywood to keep it going. Go the All blacks tonight, Sorry about Wales.....just about the whole of NZ were hoping for a Welsh win.
Welcome from the other side of the world. Love that bus, looks like mine:- http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=491922
