Hello I have the opportunity to buy a 1972 crossover late bay k reg campervan, but when looking at other vans I came across a 1973 prototype bay l reg? How can you tell the difference between a 1972 crossover and any other late bay vehicle?? Thanks David
Put up some pics if you can, there's loads of differences. I was just looking for the thread that was on here a few weeks ago listing the differences.
Okay thanks, I see if I can upload some pictures! Also how can an L reg 1973 still be an prototype bay?
No the 72 cross overs should have have low indicators and wrap round bumpers ,if not its a late bay. Poptop2 just confused it more by introducing a late crossover :
You're a wrong un Dave i only came to that conclusion after suppliers kept sending me the wrong bit , now i have to replace the fuel filler hose and they insist on sending me a late bay one which does not fit because it is a crossover tank and filler - grrr :help-sos: :help-sos:
Its trial and error with a 72, each one will have bits and bobs that are early and late, VW were loathed to get rid of old parts so they used them up as they moved onto newer models. That's why the 72s are such an enigma, its very frustrating too
There were so many difference's i had to get to the bottom of it and the conclusion i came to is there is definitely a late crossover and it is a high light made roughly between aug 72 and maybe may 73 , may 73 is when they began making them with no fuel cap etc if you look closely at our vans M you will see that they are identical , so too are all the other vans made at the same period , apart from the conversion , it is easy once you start to look .
