Hi. Yeah I think there are different mechanisms depending on year. As mentioned mine might be an earlier version, but not sure.

  2. @Foxy...think the problem may be due to the fact that it's hard to figure out which way, and what end of the roof we can see in the pic. [IMG]

my money is on a set-up like this...but it looks like the hinges have been turned round and fitted upside down in your pic...look at the bottom brackets in the photo above and compare to the ones attached to your roof....simples

  3. @vanorak you are a star! You are correct the PO has put them back on upside down and I'm just missing the horizontal bars which I'm sure I can fabricate.

  4. 'twas a team effort! Good luck with it:thumbsup:

  5. @vanorak what bed arrangement, if any, do you have up top?

  6. Originally, I had two pull out Devon bunks, but took them out when I re did the interior. They are OK for kids or small adults (and great for stashing bedding), but practically speaking, not particularly comfortable. I'd be more inclined to make something similar to the set-up you see in Autohome's and some other conversion, where long L shaped supports are fixed down the length of both van sides, at roughly curtain rail height, and sections of board are placed across the supports. Someone is offering something along these lines on Ebay at the moment for about £400. Can't remember the exact listing, but search under VW camper beds, bunks, etc.
Without wishing to do somebody out of business, the brackets could be fabbed up by a local sheet metal shop for a bout £30...they could then be stove enamelled for £20...birch ply board will cost around £30 for a 15mm 8' x 4' sheet, ticking fabric is pennies
