I took the van out this morning for a run. After about 5mls I started to feel a miss fire but nothing too worrying. I parked up, had a spin around Gisburn forest on the mtb for a couple of hours. On returning she struggled to start and when I eventually did get her going she ran like a bag of spanners. The mis fire had got worse especially under load. I stopped and checked the timing with a strobe but all was well. The engine now struggles to start and then is really lumpy and doesn't have the power to move more than 10mph. Anyone have any ideas? I didn't get chance to check the plugs or points but while I was stressing all I could think was issues with the fuel. Could condensation form in the tank if left for a while? Have any of the HT leads popped off? Ours uses to rattle loose ? Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
If stock ( lawn mower ) engine , is the solenoid on side of carb working properly also as daft as it sounds again if stock check to see if the ( pilot jet is it ? ) on the right hand side of carb is loose or even there . I've had both these issues before and have cause very similar symptoms to what you describing. And as above check service items points condenser , rotor arm , dizzy cap ( fine cracks or missing or broken terminals inside ) ect Sent from my FIG-LX1 using Tapatalk
It’s worth checking for a bit of condensation inside the distributor cap. I’ve had that before on a cold morning. Bus lives outside and as soon as I whip the cover off, I get condensation inside and in the engine bay. Hopefully a quick wipe round inside the distributor cap and a squirt of WD40 or similar may help. If it was running well before this, I’m sure it’ll be something simple. Stirlingmoz
@Flakey wins the prize. Swapped the points but still the same. A new condenser and she's running like a dream again. I think the screw holding it to the distributor had come loose which caused the problem. The intermittent earth had fried it Thanks for everyone's help. R
