Help required! Emergency!!!

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by yorkshirecampers, May 27, 2013.

  1. Well, it's kind of an emergency.

The beetle is off to film a commercial, and I've just remembered that the brake lights aren't working.

I am a technical novice, to say the least. I have some spare bulbs for the camper - will they fit the beetle?

Can someone talk me through some easy things I can go out and check now? Pretty please?

Check and clean the terminals on the brake light switch. They should have a rubber boot over them to protect them from water but they are generally missing so the connections get minging.

  6. Thanks all - changed the bulbs from the camper spares set (really must replenish that box, been working my way through it for the last year) and now have working brake lights. Well they work if you give it some welly, that's good enough for me :p

  7. I remember going in a scrap yard and putting all the tailights/headlight bulbs in my pocket ,i did go in for a windscreen for a ford escort ,when coming to pay it dawned on me my money was in the bottom of the pocket where i crammed all the bulbs...

The owners eyes sliced though me when I started removing the bulbs...

Sorry for the random post ,twiddle something...:theforce:

  8. If you have to stamp on your brakes hard to get the bulbs to illuminate then your brake pressure switch may be on its last legs

Oh those were the days, I used to nick fuses as well, actually anything shiny that would fit in my pockets. I wonder if that's why scrap yards have become more like shops nowadays?
