Help needed please...?

  1. HI all, I have recently bought some seatbelts from JK with all the stuff I need to fit them. However I need the mounting plates welding in to where they need to go in order to fit them.

So, is there anyone on here that has experience with them, knows where to put them, and is able to weld them in for me?

Im based in Sheffield, I have rang Auto Haus Dolby and they dont tend to do them as its the safety modification. But they recommended a guy called Ken Fox that has had experience in doing them.

But has anyone got experience with welding mounting plates in? fitted seatbelts before? Thats close to Sheffield?

    Thanks in advance peeps :)

They are not welded in all that well, they sit on the outside of the panels and just spread the load a bit. The strength comes from not being able to pull the spreader plates through the bodywork.

  4. Whats gripfill?

So is it better to use the original mounts if theyre sound? Or get some new ones put in?

    Thanks :)

I used to, but like others I shy away from this now. You best bet is to ape the original fittings which means out with the engine and tank for the middle ones. The rear arch fittings need a spreader like the front belts get. Is it a converted panel van? If yes the top ones are tricky to do well as the original fitting was hidden between two skins to avoid clashing with the slding door roller.

  6. I bloody hope its not an engine out job i really do! I have the original screw that takes up the hole for the top hole under the runner, luckily!! I cant believe its an engine out job, i just never thought about that, how much would i be looking at for someone to do that for me? How much would you charge zed ?

    Cheers B

if you have the under window point then the others are under the rear seat and on the rear arches unless there has been a lot patches

  8. The old mounts currently have some red thin 'seatbelts' in them at the moment, and the wheelarch mount seems to be occupied with the rear seat mount, no patches or anything that i can see, looks quite rot free under there

So you have a converted microbus and all the seat belt fittings are already there. :)

Sometimes the arch one can repaired and end up in a slightly different place and under the hinge part of the bed, but it's usually possible to get a bolt in it if you loosen the bed.

  10. Yeah all the holes and old mounting plates are there... Got old red crappy thin what i think are seatbelt extenders are in them.

Are these old seatbelts or just retaining straps for storage stuff?

  12. so would these existing mounts be used to bolt the seatbelts straight to, therefore the mounting plates I bought would not be used?

Exactly, no need for the mounting plates as the bus was fitted with the correct mounts when built in the factory

  14. So would i be able to do them myself? or would I still need a professional for the safety aspect? thanks Davidoft for your help :)

Do them yourself, your only putting a bolt into a captive nut.

  16. Those skinny red straps were extenders for a Britax baby seat circa mid seventies.

  17. Yep defo do it yourself. Done mine last year. Ten minute job. Maybe clean the threads first.
