HELP Needed. Fuel Gauge connectors

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by shane whitaker, Oct 23, 2019.

  1. Hi Guys,

The picture below show 2 connectors one for "Ground" one for "12V" does anyone know where to get a pair of these as I've been hunting high and low trying to find them on parts websites and the normal auction pages.

I presume they are like the bulb holders that they are isolating connectors, but can I find them, NOT.

    Any help would be great.

  2. Are they not just normal 6.3mm brass crimps? You don’t need insulation for them.

  3. Hi Snooty,

Its the black connector under the crimps, When wire pulled of connectors the have a spade on each side, one for the fuel gauge and one for the van wire.

At the moment I've got a crude work around, using isolation tape and gravity :)

  4. Got a better pic of them?

  5. This sort of thing?

Have you found a source for these Jules?

Unfortunately not. It’s a spare that I have and I dug it out so as to photograph it for the thread.

I’m currently trawling the internet and eBay to see what I can find.

  9. Aren’t they just adaptors to the narrower-sized male blade (which should be available from folk like Vehicle Wiring Products)?

Me too. But I think scavenging is the only option.

Yes but there's more metal than that that supports the joint in the case I think and obviously the insulation. Nothing like that from AES, VWP or the like unfortunately. I've got a home made version working for now.

The plastic body of the connector has a lip formed into it which locates in the back plate.

The red circular insulation piece holds in place when the pointed tangs are bent over thereby securing it in place and isolating the connector from the dash pod back plate.

I feel sure there will be a modern alternative but I don’t seem to be able to find them.

  14. Could you not push an insulated (even heatshrink would do) thin blade male down the hole?

  15. Loads of 2.8mm male blades on fleaBay.

  16. Yes these are the bad boys. Can't find them anywhere.

This was my take on the problem about 15 years ago and the gauge is still working. A little tap now and then jolts it into action.
Blue plastic cut from and old ice cream container!

The idea was to hold the connections firm so they didn't jiggle about.

I sent an email with some images to Vehicle Wiring Parts.co.uk and got the following reply

Sorry, not one we have and it looks like something that may be a bit more of
    a specialised part.

I cannot even offer an alternative.

Sorry we cannot help you on this occasion.

    Regards,

    Dan.

looks like trawling eBay and swap meets maybe your only way forwards. If the one I have will assist I can post it to you.

  19. cheers Dan

but wouldn’t want to take your last one just in case of breakage

thanks everyone for the help, at least I’m not the only person struggling

I may have a damaged metal instrument back in my spares stash.

Will have a look for you this weekend.
