Help needed for a newbie bay owner in Leeds

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Finnleysdad, Oct 27, 2013.

  1. Hi bought my 1st bay this summer she's a 79 Devon and she's the new love of my life !!
I wanted to know if anyone can recommend a decent garage / mechanic in the Leeds area to help look after her while I learn the basics, oil changes etc etc .. I am wanting to learn all the basics myself over time but while I do I need some hired help to keep her sweet.
Sorry if this is a bit of a novice question but like I say I'm new to the scene but very keen to learn and I'm a practical chap (sparky by trade) it's just the mechanics I need help with
Any help & advice is much appreciated
    Thanks
    Nigel

  6. Hi....Finnleysdad....I can honestly say that if you're a practical chap, you'll have no problems getting your head round the mechanical side of a Type 2 Bus.
There's probably more information, and people willing to share their personal experience, than any other vehicle I've come across. As it's an old design, much of the spanner work is pretty straightforward...the best advice i can give you is to get stuck in....and don't be concerned about asking questions....there's plenty of jargon that you'll pick-up as you go along...in a few months you'll be advising others:thumbsup:

Do a search for "Techenders" mate. The next one is in April.

  11. Techenders is a good thing to get to if you can - next one's in April. You'll get to meet a lot of lovely TLB-ers, and people are there to share their knowledge and/or learn so if you haven't got to grips with the basics (or anything more advanced, come to think of it!), they'll be plenty of volunteers to show you.
It's a cheap weekend away in Lutterworth, with nice cooked breakfasts :D

  12. Niw then

  13. Hope you enjoy the site and the bus nige

  14. I'm in Leeds and I use Herbie Hospital for all my major repairs. The guys there only work on aircooled motors so really know their stuff. They have a basic webpage at http://www.herbiehospital.co.uk which has all their details on it.

    Welcome aboard Nigel!

I would recommend getting a copy of the Bentley manual for the bay, its got pretty much everything covered & is easy (ish) to understand!
