HELP!!! Need assistance in formalities of importing from USA

Discussion in 'Buying a VW Camper' started by Chris Berry, Oct 20, 2013.

  1. Have read DUBious thread on importing from USA. Can anybody help with regards to BTI Document Completion so i can import at 5% VAT and generally any ways to keep costs down. Shipping is confirmed from LA. Do i pay the shipper/VAT/import duty after customs clearance? Anybody have any updated figures on how much these cost?

    Cheers,

    Chris

  2. Does anybody have any experience of filling in the BTI document? If so i could really do with some help. I need to know what the customs nomenclature box i need to tick and the appropriate nomiclature code. I would also like some help on the detail into which i need to list the description of goods, particularly with what i should write as to what the use of goods will be.

Thanks to anybody in advance who replies but could do with immediete assistance!

    Chris.

  7. The VAT and 5% import duty is payable to the UK shipping agent to release the bus from the shippers. I used Kingstown although the handler at the other end dictated that.

Customs Nomenclature is "TARIC" (Box 5)
The Nomenclature code is 9705000090 (Box 6)

There are key phrases you need to enter under the description of goods.......has anyone advised you on these?

  8. The unloading fees is dependant on the number of vehicles in the container but I paid about £400 to land the bus.

They even charged for disposing of the packing wood! I'd have kept it for a burn up!

  9. Awesome thanks :)

  10. No, not yet. What should i be writing down?

  12. You have to state that

It is of original transmission, bodywork and interior.
It will be insured on a classic car policy and used for shows and not for it's intended original purposes.
Obviously state how rare they are and send photos of the bus and a copy of the vehicle title.

Send me your email address and I'll scan my BTI for that I sent.

  14. Thanks Sharpey. Email is christopher.paul.berry@gmail.com
I had an inkling that you have would have to state that it intends to be concoursed.

  15. Chris, I've sent you a photo of the text. If it's unreadable let me know and I'll scan it tomorrow.

  16. Got it Sharpey, legend, thank you. It's a lot less detailed than i presumed they would want. Any other tips? I heard that now you can get the import duty waived, do you know if this is true?

  17. That is to get it waived and 5% VAT.

  18. Oh ok, cool. Thanks :)

  19. Much cheaper to import them for restoration ;)
    :)

  20. Hi Steve. Just wanted to ask you a coiple more things...approx how much did you pay Kingstown in fees (they have quoted me £350ish) Does that sound about right? Also, do yoi send the completed BTI docs to the tariff offices at Southend on Sea?

Finally, could you confirm the filling in of the upper part of the bti document. Applicant is me, Holder is seller in USA and Agent would be Kingstown if using them?

And whether i should complete anything in boxes 9 (Commercial denominations and box 12 (BTI's issued to other holders)

    Cheers,

    Chris.
