Help how the change front brake pads late bay

  1. Can any one help if removed pads disc and caliper on my 79 late bay .then put new disc on then pushed the piston on the caliper cloesest to outside but in inside piston doesn't seem to go in using grips. Do you have to turn the piston to get it in if so how ??

It should push in. Make sure the reservoir doesn't overflow if they are new pads.
If it won't push in by hand perhaps it's time to take it out, clear out the rust and then try. What happens is:
Pads wear, piston has to come out further. No doubt the dust seals are split somewhere and the top of the piston develops some surface rust, as does the caliper piston hole above the seal (not the dust seal, the one inside). When you push back it gets jammed, if it doesn't jam your seal may be against the rusty part of the piston because you had to push it right back in to fit new pads. It's a sad fact that fitting pads to these old ladies often requires a caliper sort out...

  3. Get a small g-clamp, stick a thin bit of wood over the piston, then g-clamp it back into the calliper.

  4. The brakes I took out were like new but because the bus has been stood for 2 years the pads had sized to the disc and there where rusty on the disc. When I brake the van judders so I renewed them. Also you can't use a G clamp with pulling the caliper a apart as there twin piston one either side looks like ill have overhaul the caliper.

    snotty likes this.
  6. Not really sure what you mean. Use a very small g-clamp (similar to tool in Zed's pic) to squeeze the piston in (with caliper unbolted from van).
