Does anyone have any rocker gaskets (type 1engine). I'm stuck near Mere, Wilts, with a very badly leaking (new) set...
Have you tried refitting yours, in case they were pinched? Or maybe your bales (wire rocker cover retaining clips) arent tight enough - should need a screwdriver to lever them off. Good luck!
Use paper towels and alcohol/solvent (meths/ whisky ) or washing up liquid in warm water to clean up the gaskets and covers. Use some contact glue to stick gaskets to covers and carefully refit.
If you have any grease or vaseline coat the gaskets and refit .this holds them in the right place. Ps im in cork at the moment
Thanks guys. Tried refitting and limped to a Halfords. Sadly I had fitted silicone gaskets thinking they'd be good but they're not. Have patched up with silicone gasket sealant as a temporary measure but it is still leaking, only not as fast. I keep topping up with oil and it's getting us there... Once in the Gower I shall go over to FBI and see if they can sell me some Cork ones, and maybe some mew springy arm things.
M No, like oxygen free copper speaker cables they are more expensive, so they must be better. The cork/ neoprene ones manage to combine all the correct properties, and come "free" every time you buy a gasket set.. The silicone ones should work as well as gaskets, but they are more floppy so they wont stay put while you put the covers on.
