Hi all Owned our camper for 8 years but been hiding over on earlybay.com but having a crossover realised just as much relevent information over here! Sydney is a Sopru conversion and imported from Auz by a small independent trader no longer about. He was in pretty good condition but after 4 years we decided to give him a freshen up at Beetlewerks in Angmering, involving new headlining and pop up canvass, respray, new rubbers and a couple of new panels Originally Sydney had a 1700cc type 4 engine but gave up the ghost a couple of years back and was replaced with one of the last type 4 engines VW Heritage had found originally destined for the MOD (1800cc with hydraulic tappets). I transferred the single weber I'd fitted to replace the worn out twins but seriously considering splashing out on a new set of twins to get the best out of the new engine. Currently only doing 17mpg! All the fans and heating components were stripped out by the previous owner but as we only camp April to October and not a daily driver this hasn't been a problem but have had to block off the risers from the heat exchangers with half a beer can to keep the warn air away from the cooling fan, so if anyone knows a neater was of doing this please let me know! We visit a fair few rallies inc Elemental, Dubs In The Forest, Alive n Dubbin, Stonor, Brighton Breeze, Camperjam etc as well as family camping weekends. I myself have a crossover and most people on this form are jealous of it and secretly in private desire an early-bay Anyway that's enough of my ramblings.
