HI We have just completed our first year of owner ship of our 1975 t2 - 2l automatic imported from OZ about 10 years ago - it has been great fun , even with lock down. Since we purchased have had electronic ignition installed and full service undertaken. Recently on two occasions - the engine has cut out and both warning lights have come on after we have heard a popping noise from the engine / exhaust ?. on both occasions we had been on a 50 mile round trip and cruising about 50 miles per hour and both times the break down occurred on the way back about 10 miles from home. On the first occasion a very nice man pulled over and looked at engine - couldn't see anything obviously wrong - but we were able to start the engine again and he followed me home at a very leisurely 30 miles per hour. Anyway i rang my mechanic afterwards - he looked at it and said it was running lean . Yesterday it happened a again - we waited 10 minutes then like before the engine started again and we made it home very slowly. just wondered if anyone has experienced same problem - does appear to happen on a longer journey when we are cruising at 50mph - as driving around town or down to the beach never have any problems. Thanks in advance for your help . Dave
Welcome from the sea-faring county of Notts, enjoy your stay! Well, there does appear to be a seaside theme today
vacuum hose elbows perished going into the carbs? I had one go last year and caused a backfire that shut the carburettor butterfly plates and limped home - although she was hot and we could smell loads of unburnt fuel as we had poor mixture after that.
Hello and welcome from the sunshiney New Forest. I can’t help at all with the engine stuff, but thought I’d say Hi anyway
Hi from the West Lancashire sunshine coast - near Southport. I had that problem a few years ago in a hot weather traffic jam - had to wait 1/2 hour to get a restart. Next service with timing check etc - it seems to be cured/
