Hello from Stockport!

  1. Hello!
My husband and I have been reading this forum quite a while trying to soak up lots of Bay knowledge. Thanks for sharing so much.
We're looking to buy our first Late Bay in the next couple of months. We like a few different types (partic Westy Belin) but we are hoping to get down to Tatton in a couple of weeks to have a good look and decide which kind of VW would work for us.

Are there many people on here for Manchester/Stockport/Cheshire who would kindly be able to give advice or point us in the direction of people who are familiar with local scene (ha it said 'scene' feel free to hurt me)? Also such a newb question but do people from garages offer their services to come out and look at vehicles with you? Currently we're a bit clueless in that we've never had old cars and although we are willing to learn we obviously don't know where to start apart from dun, dun, duuuunnnn RUST WATCH!

Thanks for listening and if you see anything fantastic in the NW of England do let us know and we'll owe you a beer at a meet some time.

  4. Yep I'm not too far just up the M60 in Irlam. Welcome aboard! Can't say I know much about any 'scene' as I tend to do my own thing but I do know there are loads of TLB members around and about the Manchester area. The Tatton Park show will be a good place to see what's about and get a good look at these vans and ask people what to look for. :)

There seems to be a fair few members around Manchester, @MorkC68 may be able to help (if you can keep him awake long enough)

  8. Thank you all for the welcome! We will definitely come over to the stand at Tatton. We will be the people with the rat sized, fox-faced annoying dog.

@Barneyrubble That Eurovette is amazing. Now that could work! I think I'll have to do a bit of research but wow, that's nice.

  10. Welcome along. They're a nice bunch, our Cheshire contingent!

I can't give any advice (we bought our van based on it having a poptop and being purple ), but good luck with your search!

  11. Hello and Welcome from The Cotswold Contingent. I'm no help either because:-
    A) I'm in The Cotswolds. :D
    B) I thought a Berlin Westy was someone who lived behind a wall in Germany a few years ago.

  12. welcome. recent new owner here too - we spent a year researching and trying to find the right van, ended up with a westy berlin deluxe, very pleased with our choice. very practical and lots of space - both for living/sleeping plus the pop top becomes a kids play room when it rains..

my advice: hire before you buy, look at lots of vans for sale before you commit, go to shows, read lots (here + the samba), take an expert or get a van checked before you buy if you don't know what your'e looking for.

  13. Hi there and welcome we are in Stockport too :)

There is a VW scene around the area we occasionally go to BugNutz which is up in Bury, also there's So Manc which I think meets monthly in Didsbury plus there are meets at the Trafford centre. Have a look on Facebook and you'll find them

After lots of trial and error we've finally found a mechanic we trust I'll PM you the details. I reckon he would go and look at a van for you as long as it was local. I would volunteer but I really know nothing! Happy to look, point and go ooohhh if that's any help lol

  16. Hi and welcome!
Im sure somebody will help you out!
I came over from Sweden to get mine and the help was great,as long as you can take a joke and make a joke you will fit in well here.
What you could do is take lots of pics of this interesting bus and post them up here for us to see.
Lots of under the bus pics, engine pics, under the engine pics, interior pics.etc
    We like pics here....

  17. Thank you all so much for your warm welcome and wise words!
We've seen one we really like but it is at the other end of the country so we're just going on photos. Got some of the underside and hoping for some engine shots - from a TLB user.

  19. Welcome from sunny Anglesey to you both :)

If the bus you want to look at is at the other side of the country get a local TLBer to give it the once over first before travelling, there's plenty here that are able to help

  20. Welcome aboard:thumbsup: You are doing the right thing by going to shows and speaking to owners first. We did the same last year before buying our first bus and you'll find most owners are more than happy to talk for hours about their campers! For the record a LHD Westy Berlin (in orange) is the Rolls-Royce of campers:D
