Heater controls /knobs on 1973/4 how do you get um off?

  1. I just pushed the metal arms back in until they could not go in any further. The receiving slot it tight so no real need to secure them back in place. Also cleaned the mechanism for the heating controls.

Are you trying to get to something behind the dash. Is so then my heater control arms have to come out to do this.

Well done @Beaver . I had to cut mine as I lost patience trying to remove them. Also my control arms are longer. Probably due to being older but they do look like the same idea.

  2. Cheers for that @Beaver what a pa la va so all three faff faff this is to fit new clips for dash n have a look at sumat else , german engineering at its worst :D:thumbsup: So you need to pop the nylon button out then ?? n then hope it doesnt go somewhere you cant get at it ;)

  3. Seem bit weird why they just didnt make the coloured rubber bit a pull off fit really , strange !!!!

  4. Yep. It's a right kafuffle. I made a cats arse of it the first time I tried.

Currently don't have the plastic clips fitted and my levers don't fall out.

  7. Use a small socket to compress the ends of the plastic clip bit. It's easier if you remove the stereo or blanking plate.

Beat me to it, though chances are they're already missing. Mirror/torch. ;)

  9. Yep, I think most people leave them out once they've removed them. As baybirmingham said, they're quite visible from under the dash, but it's quicker to take the stereo out than it is to get comfortable lying on the cab floor;) anyway you can avoid lying down is good.

  10. Lying down is my prefered working style

I've been known to remove the windscreen and dash top if there's lots to mess with under the dash.
