morning all. I recently bought some new heater cables to fit to the van, the old ones were non existent. However the ferrules on the end of the new ones didn't fit through the piping, it would get caught at the far end by the heat exchangers; it seemed like the end of the pipe was too narrow for the ferrule. Has any one else had similar issues, are there different width cables available? I looked on JK but could only see one size.

  3. yup ,common enough prob mate, i filed down the cable end till it went thru , by stopping often and attempting to push same end thru from engine end i knew when enough was enough, a.n.other method i employed wiv my other cable was ,i measured the end and sourced a drill bit of that size and drilled out the plastic pipe end ,that also worked >>ho ho > AND??!! yes !!! i"d got the wrong cables ! they were slightly 2 short! so, lay out your cables if u have a removed one (just in case)>> my exchanger flaps are now "tied" open perm. oh ,and if you have same front of vehicle cable retaining clip ,that is fun to fit ! hope this helps ,and merry christmas.

  4. One of my heater cables was so rusted in that none of the dozens of suggested methods would shift it. So I took another route, remembering that I have a belly pan to protect everything, I just routed the cables outside the pipes with cable ties and sorted out the clamping at the h/e end. The big advantage of this method is that if I have do them again its just cable ties to snip off.

  5. Just done mine
The heater cables are different - there is a RHS one that has an "L" shape on the cab end, and the LHS that has an "O" end -again cab end.
The only way in -is by inserting them at the cab end down the metal conduits - I got my airline out and gave then a good blast.
The cables came with a black outer sheathing and that fitted down the conduit as well - don't forget to get the dust caps for the heat exchanger ends.
The ends that mine have are like a thin metal finger.

That's what I thought may be the issue but I couldn't seem to get them off. Maybe I'll just cut them if there isn't an easy way of getting them off?

  9. Yeah , that was the situation i found myself in, so i gave a blast of release fluid , and later heaved on them with big set of shifters, got em out but end of tube/pipe broke from retaining bracket (which i resecured with a jubilee clip) any how, "if only i"d known?">take it easy bruv !
