Heat exchanger repair stub end anyone done this?

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by bezy, Apr 12, 2016.

  1. Hi all, this is for our bug..

The heat exchanger has hole in connection pipe to the muffler. So discovered and bought a repair stub end.

Anyone fitted one of these, should I have some sort of donut fitted as well and a seal?

Any advice on actual fitment would be great.

    Thanks for any help

The idea is to cut off the same length as the thick bit then hammer then in and weld the seam.

  3. Cheers, then the muffler fits over the thick bit ok? It looked a bit big...

Then the clamp fits over, but are any other bits needed. Some pictures I've seen refer to some kind of seal or a donut. Thanks for your help.

Treat yourself to a silencer fitting kit, you'll have to take it off, fix the heat exchanger then refit. There will be 4 gaskets and 2 complete clamp assemblies, new copper nuts etc in the kit, all you need. If you remove hx to fix, you will need to replace the gasket for that too.

  5. Thanks zed, will take a look.
