Headlinings

  1. Morning all.

Has anyone replaced the cab headlining in Carpet Lining or a similiar kind of material? I'm not confident in replacing the headlining with a traditional vinyl one.

  2. new perforated vynal headlinings are easier than you might think to fit  ........although you will need to take the front screen out....but then you will probably need to do that anyway

not sure how well carpet would cover it  .....as there it a shelf bit/strengthener above the cab doors and above the front screen....might be difficult getting carpet into all the crevaces.

if you dont like the vynal have you thought about ply headlining? .....probably just as difficult to fit as vynal though

  3. Thank you Diddymen for the reply, the front screen is already out so i may take the old one lining out carefully and see how it goes. Can i buy a new headlining or do i have to make one up from scratch?

  4. you can buy new.....or you can make your own, I think new ones are about £115 from heritage/JK for the cab headlining

Mr's Diddymen will be making a batch soon for about £65 if your interested :D

fitting the vynal headlining is straight forward enough, keep and reuse your original headlining tension bars

refit tension bars to new headliner, and use then to hold it in place above the cab seats. Start at the back by folding the cardboard retainer over into the retaining clips at the back of the cab in the roof, make sure the back edge is even then push retaining clips up to hold back in place

then pull the whole headliner forward to the screen opening and hold it in place on the seal lip with bulldog clips or pegs

I then tuck the sides of the headliner under the side clips using a blunt wall paper scraper (starting in the middle) then go from side to side working backwards and forwards pulling out any creases as you go

as long as you have tucked quite a bit of the side headliner under the side clips it should hold it in place with out gule, which then allows you to pull out any bits to restretch to get rid of creases.

glue the back corners in place where ther are no clips

then glue the front around the screen seal lip starting in the middle working outwards using a good impact adhesive (replacing pegs as you go until glue sets)

then get rid of any creases in the front corners by stretching and gluing the corners in place

you might end up putting small creases back in, when you reinstall the sunvisors but theses shoud drop out over time

heres how mine turned out (made by Mrs Diddymen)......

  5. Deffo fit a new headlining...carpet will be a bind to get right...I retrimmed my pop top and cab headlining a while back...can I give you a couple of tips? do it in a garage with a heater on, so it's warm, and buy some proper vinyl and trim glue from a coachtrimmers....don't B & Q it....the real deal is stretchy, tacks up quickly and the vinyl can also be repositioned when you mess up....take your time and you'll impress yourself, every time you look up....last tip....buy a box of quality stanley blades....use once for one cut, then bin it...good luck:thumbsup:

  6. Are you only after the cab headliner? I have a perforated one I bought a couple of years ago that I never fitted as I didn't want to take the windscreen out. I'm sure we could come to a mutually beneficial arrangement ;)

  7. Thanks Vanorak, sounds like sound and sensible advise.

Thanks Vonorak, Looks like the Vinyl route is the way to go.

    cheers all, muchly appreciated.

  8. Dubs,

i am only after the cab section as the back end of the bus is all open to the pop top.

PM me and let me know how much your after for your vinyl.

  9. That looks pretty white in there mate? :). Out of interest is that a JK cover over the van? if so how have you found it?

  10. It's very white just wonder how long it will last with my kids climbing over it !! :D

Yes, cover is a JK one....its fine ...........for an indoor cover

I did find it wasnt waterproof though, once it was wet it stayed wet and clung to the van like a soggy tissue, also water would drip through to the inside when my front screen was out :( , which is a shame as the zip openings are really good and its a nice fit

Thank you wife for me please.

  12. That really looks great mate. Full respect to your other half.

The cover, I'm on my second one in 4 years, first one just disintegrated. The latest one has only done one winter and it leaked! Might have to invest in a decent cover in the long run. :-(

  13. Got mine in mirfield somewhere, tiny unit next to a pub on the huddersfield road, sure it was 30-40 quid. Hardest part was putting the screen back, the lining is fairly simple as long as you still have the rods that go through the top to tention it. I'll try find the name, if they have one, it was more a tip off.

  14. Many thanks Buster, really appreciate it.

  15. We make ones for that size @sANDYbAY

cant quite make out from your pics, but it does appear you have the standard headlining clips above the cab doors....cant tell at the rear of the cab though.

you might have to drop your curtain track down to tuck the headliner in, and then put your curtain track back

If you havent got the clips welded to your van, you can alwaysmake a 'return fold' at the edge of the headliner with impact adhesive, and then glue the headlining along the back and sides (like rear headlinings are sometimes done above the side windows)
