Headlight relay??

  1. Hi all, I'll hold my hands up, this is a bit of a lazy post, because if it weren't pouring down with rain I'd probably go and check it out a little more before starting a thread.

For a while now I've known that if you want the headlight full beams to stay on at night, you've got to hold the stalk the whole time you need full beams.

But if you wanted to flash someone for anything that worked fine.

But now neither of those things work. I have side lights and main beams, but zero full beam action and lost the ability to flash any one.

Could this be as simple a a headlight relay, or something else?

Anyone got any thoughts? (Related to the above!!)

    Cheers

Sounds like the relay. If it's an old metal covered one, bend back the tabs to remove the cover and have a look - it's a simple electro-mechanical device and water gets inside them. Some WD40 and a wiggle and you can often fix them. If that's it, drill a small hole in the cover to let any water leaking from your windscreen back out again (or fix the leak).

  3. Does the relay plug in underneath the fuse box? Also is it true the full beam does not stay on unless held on with the indicator stalk?

  4. Yes and no respectively.
Dipped headlights and full beam should toggle with each pull of the indicator stalk (and the blue full beam tell-tale on the dash should come on with the full beam).

  5. That takes me back!!Not had that for a number of years but did this exact fix myself!

  6. Cheers @zed and others I thought it was flog to be a relay, but this sound like a good fix to give a go first, I'll get on it when it stops raining.............!!
