Headlight question?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Twe-d, Aug 11, 2015.

  1. Hi, Im knocking up a new wiring loom for my 78 bus and having never drove a road worthy one...

How do you turn your main beam on? I'm i right in thinking.......
pulling the light switch out once puts the marker, tail and dash lights on
twice puts the dipped beam on
the indicator stalk pulled up flashes the main beam or does it latch the main beam on

Also does the lights flash when there is no lights on?

    thanks

  3. Headlight switch first position is sidelights/dash. Second position is headlights. Dipswitch toggles between low and high beam, and latches. Will flash the lights if ign off (I think). If it doesn't behave, you may have US-spec wiring where the flashing doesn't work (from memory).

  4. Mines an usa 76 and yes pull the main switch one notch puts side lights and dash on, pull to second notch puts main headlight on but low beam. Pull the indicator arm puts the main beam on and a green light glows on the dash. Also if you twist the main light switch it dims the dash board lights,.Mine does not have the 'flasher' mode!

  6. Yep, forgot about the twisty dash light dimmer. Catches many folk out. Varies your dash lighting from "nearly invisible" to "dim" :)

  7. Really is it that bad? do you think its something i should address while I'm at this stage?
looked into fitting LED's but doubt they would agree with the dimmer, could look into fitting more bulbs.

  8. Ah, but they would. I fitted LED strips inside the instrument housing - have a search on here for the thread.

if the bulbs, lenses and all the connectors are clean i find the standard ones are fine

Do not fit more bulbs to the dash use LED s because the dimmer resistor can get hot and fall apart even with the load from stock 1.2 watt dash lights.
