I believe that it is a length of hose, a coffee cup lid, and an anal probe. Very common in Aussie vans.

  2. Our Aussie bay had the pipe work for this left inside the vent.I read in a David Eccles book that it was to filter the air for the cooling to stop too much sand getting into the engine bay area. Not sure though.

I can't see the photos but I'd guess it is an air cleaner. Quite common here if you're driving in very dusty conditions.

Yep, saw the photo it is part of a schnorkel air filter system.

  5. I prefer Bern's explanation :)

It's a Donaldson Cyclopac Air Filter I think.

  9. Wasn't it an Aussie who came up with air conditioning? Or is that in the same league as drop-monkies and one eyed trouser snakes?

You mean Drop Bears, a very dangerous creature

  11. I've seen drop scones .very nice to

  12. Yes, Drop Bears. That's the one!

The trouble is, I am now unable to believe anything an Aussie says is fact ,because of your winding up of foreign nationals.

My Uncle in Brisbane told me that forest fires were particularly dangerous because the gum trees exploded. It sound feasible and I spent 3 month telling people I was meeting whilst travelling. It then occurred to me he may have been exercising that Antipodean humor.

Donaldson is not aftermarket but a genuine upgrade for Kombis that travel on dirt roads after they found that the stock filter was not up to it. After numerous warranty engine rebuilds the engineers at VWA turned to Donaldson for Australian conditions.

  15. It looks like the black pipe would cause a significant reduction in cooling air through the left hand vent

  16. when i i did the tank sender on our aussie bus i could not believe the amount dust in where the tank sits . i ended vacuuming it all out. its not like English dust so bagged it up and put it on Ebay. so if you need a bag of dust for around your tank for that authentic aussie bus im your man.
    :D

  17. Is it Westfalia dust, be worth a mint :)

  18. unfortunatly not. slightly different grade so wont fit a Westfalia.;)

It would probably be Sopru dust, which is considerably rarer in the UK than Westfalia dust.
