Just wondering what type of switch and cable i would need? the seats i have fitted have the wiring for heating so it HAS to work i have two fuse boxes fitted so that wont be a problem, i think im getting OCD about the Bay, i have to have all the switches etc working and now all nuts and bolts have to match, i think i have a problem
Some one on here did it a while ago. Just use the same size cable as on the wires on the seat plug or the next size up. Run it through a relay & a fuse. try a 10A if that blows move up a size. Even better try to find out the data from the car they came out of.
i put some pads into one of my cars a few yrs ago ....they were great use a large cable from the battery, through a relay, that is switched by a circuit on the ignition....then they wont get left on, ask me how i know...
Have the seats got thermostats in, or is the temperature controlled by the original switch? I know Saab did both types. If you haven't got thermostats, your bum's going to get mighty warm ...
I had a pair of Volvo seats with heater elements. I went and asked a Volvo dealer about how they were wired into the original car, and as they were just on switches with fuses (20a) then that is how I wired them in. I got rid of the seats eventually because they were too high, but they were welcome on a very wet trip back from Cornwall once.
I could have done with a pair when my son and I drove back from a sailing race in our wetsuits in December one time, with the windows open to stop the screen misting up...
I put a set of Ford Street-Ka leathers in my caddy truck. They had the switches etc built in to the bases so I just teed a 12v supply from the fused feed for the fag lighter and job done Quite retro looking, full leather and under a hundred quid a pair
I've got the heaters wired up on the saab seats in my bay. Don't think they worked too well though as i never could tell if the warmth was just body heat being transfered to the seats and not the other way round.
Are all the wires used? mine are Saab, admittedly i haven't really had a good look yet, i was going to search for a wiring diagram tonight
There are Saab wiring diags out there - I'll try and find one. If you feel in the bottom seat cushion, you may feel one of the older "button" thermostats (which are notorious for packing up). As above, if you've got later seats, likely you'll need the Saab dash controls that go with them. If the seat's working, it should feel as if you've just peed yourself . If not, they're not working.
Would one of these heater rheostats be the way to go? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390683176421?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Since the Dark Ages, electronic heater control circuits (like in the Saab seats) have been invented which dont get smoking hot along with the seats... why not fit a retro knob on something more modern than a rheostat. And dont forget that the poor little 55A alternator struggles to keep the headlights and the indicators going at the same time .
Ok, these then, proper ones? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Saab-9000...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item45edbde90d
