has anyone fitted self-adhesive waistline trim

  1. Hi all,

Think I am going to fit the cheap stick on chrome strip on my waistline (the bus's not mine).

I can hear you all saying it'll look crap, but seen one on a piccie and it looked ok.

has anyone fitted this to their bus - you know the stuff, £10 a roll from ebay.

Thought it would save me a few quid (£185 a set from vw emporium new) and save me drilling holes in my van.

    Thanks

  4. thanks guys - will wait to see if they pick up on this thread, otherwise I'll drop them a pm.

  5. Check the condition of your paint before trying this. If paint adhesion on your bus isn't great this stuff could fall off, taking the paint with it

I guess it'd pull any rotten bits off too

  7. Crosshatch tape is readily available. Try it on a small area first to see what it's like.

No need to crosshatch it though!!
    :)

  9. That looks great, how are the ends finished??

  10. They're not - I just cut them as neatly as possible. This is a 20 yard bus - looks good from 20 yards away. ;)

If I was bothered enough, I'd have used silver touchup paint.

  11. Antenna on the driver's door - what a rebel!

  12. i wrapped gaffer tape around my gut to make it look trimmer ...;)

  13. That looks good Baybirmingham - how long have you had it on and have there been any issues since fitting it?

Do you happen to know the make as if Lidl's anything like Aldi they have stuff in 1 minute then yu never see it in there again.

ps, I assume you are in Birmingham! Whereabouts are you? Me & my mate are considering starting an aircooled vw meet on the first Wednesday of every month starting April.

    cheers

  14. Grub,

The trim has been on there for years. I fitted it in June 2009. There is 3M tape on the back, so I don't think it's going anywhere soon. I have a spare roll, but I need that for when panels/doors are replaced. Unfortunately the only information I have is what is on that box, although with a lot of things Lidl, it will come around again, it always does.

I'm north Birmingham, not far from Spaghetti Junction.

  15. thanks mate - I will check in Lidl - would rather use the same as you used if I can get it as another guy on the earlybay forum used some stuff and the chrome peeled off it in a few months.

I am in Solihull not far from B'ham airport.
