There is no point in a (stock) bus. They are designed for the kitcar/sand buggy crowd to allow the gearbox/engine to be mid mounted. Since the selector shaft would be pointing out the back, a normal selector linkage can't be used. A cable shift linkage is one solution to this problem.
That said...if you wanted to install a side shift gearbox (from a T25/T3?) in a Bay, then a cable shifter may be a viable solution...? It would certainly be in interesting project
My bus is far from stock lol VR6 transplant and 091 trans. I have the two raised 4 inches for more clearance when lowering it. So the trans comes through into the passenger compartment.Having issues w/ 3rd and 4th gear. I feel like I hit the lotto when I get it the first time lol Adjusted many times and still issues. Was looking into this b/c the 10 second delay trying to find 3rd gear on the highway sucks. Here are some pics of my setup.
OK..now that does look interesting! There are loads of cable shifters out there. I have a feeling I've even seen a hydraulic one. Since you're obviously not afraid of a little 'creative engineering', the world can indeed be, the shellfish of your choice....
