My cab door lock is extremely hard to turn and unlock. Is it likely to be the lock itself or the rest of the mechanism in the door do you think?
It'll most probably be the brass coloured mechanism in the door. Drop it out and give it a good clean and re oil
Probably the mechanism ... Easy enough to take off the door card and give it a lube up . Squirt of WD40 down the lock never hurts ...
If it's never been out it's more than likely full of crud. Not difficult to sort. Even I managed to get all the handles off (One at a time) barrels out, and gave them a good clean. While I was at it I bought some lock kits to change the little wafers, now one key fits all.
You may find that as regards locks ,Graphite powder is more appropriate , as oil gathers grit etc which mullers the workings.might help/be better.
There's a tiny spring on the mechanism which sometimes breaks or stretches which makes it hard to unlock, or check that the plastic splash guard is in place. It stops water which gets past the scraper dripping onto the mechanism, if it's missing it seizes up sometimes.
I gave a good spray on the mechanism in the door (not the lock itself) am everything is moving a lot smoother now
