Hard Brakes

  1. Hi All

My brake pedal is too hard, servo assisted brakes on a 74 lhd, i did wonder if I'm getting enough suction from the mainfold, it used to be fed from both manifolds but now is only fed from one is this a possibility, I've checked to one way valve and this seems to work OK.

Or is it a fault with the servo itself? if i really pump the brakes with the engine on tick over the engine falters, it doesn't quite stall but it trys to?

Any pointers would be great as i don't want to replace the servo if its not the problem, is there anything or any way i can check to see what else it could be?

As always, any info or pointers greatly received

    Thanks

    Dave.

  2. to test servo, engine off and pump up pedal till its solid. press pedal and start engine and pedal shoul drop a bit. check pipe from servo to manifold and if thats ok it can only be the servo

  3. I have tried this and the pedal doesnt pump up with the engine off, and doesnt seem to drop when the engines started. :(

  4. Rather suggests your Servo isn't working because the breather that allows air in on one side of the servo diaphragm as you depress the pedal to bring in vacuum on the other side, is blocked. Some VWs had a breather pipe from the servo which vented in the wheel arch...just right for long term collection of crap.
