Handbrake buffer

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by grub, Apr 27, 2020.

  1. Hi all. The buffer that sits behind my handbrake and cushions the releasing if the handbrake is split all round.
Can you buy these in the UK, and are they easy to fit?
    Tnx.

  2. From memory, you can get the US-style ones with the extended rim to operate the handbrake switch. You’ll need to take the handbrake handle off to fit it.

  4. Think the postage/customs charges may be a bit prohibitive getting one from the US?
Has anyone purchased anything from the US?

  5. Nice one..thanks Snotty..I will order one.

Yes a while back at around 1.4 USD to the pound I bought a PLX Devices AFR setup for $200. After duty was paid it came to £200.
Basically you buy it and the company concerned writes the valuation on the box as they post it to you. In the USA they will put the correct price and description on the product. When it arrives in the UK it is checked by customs and charges are added. The Post Office then tell you that you have a parcel which they will release after you make a payment, online. That payment covers duty and other charges.
Then the parcel gets delivered in the usual way.

Korea also puts a correct price on goods, same thing happens if its over a few pounds value like the USA.
Customs dont charge duty below a certain value, £8 or so..

At the end of this year thanks to Boris' ship of fools, anything from overseas even our old friends will have to enter the customs queue and add a few days or more to the delivery time.

Its the totally stupid prices the USPS charges that make stuff from the US expensive.
