theirs nothing more satisfying than a good working handbrake on a steep hill on the I.O.W with a smart vehicle parked right up your jackseeee
I dont think i ever got passed down some vinyl with making plans for para I do remember one about a spy in my room so let me go google
My handbrake "self-adjusted" yesterday - I pulled it on, it popped and kept going past the normal 6 clicks to beyond the gear stick! Not the same as your problem (my passenger-side handbrake cable snapped), @Wheelhouse but it's funny to see this thread so soon after my shock!
Have the drums off and check the shoes, in my limited (4 years of bay ownership), the cables don't need adjusting, set the shoes right and all is well.
Living in the fens I don't need much of a handbrake, but last year oop in that there Yorkshire I had to use it at some roadworks on a steep hill so it pulled out a few more clicks than for fen use. The toothy rod that the handle's on the end of turned out to be so worn the ratchet plate turned inside out and I couldn't let it off again. That was embaressing.
I had progressive failure of strands in the cable. If adjusted to put the brakes on at seven clicks they hadnt released with the brake released and the drums would get very hot. It became a choice of handbrake or first gear with the EMPI shifter. In the end I found the cables were half snapped inside the springs in the drums where they had rusted. After I replaced them if you pull on the handbrake while rolling slowly it comes to stop with a thump, and you can actually feel the deceleration if you put tbe handbrake on at 30 mph.
Hi all I have removed one of the drums this evening and had a look at the shoes, they don't look to bad but how thick is acceptable? Thanks
Great, I can get the drum on and get them adjusted. Then I can see what the hand brake is like. Thanks all.
