And so glad to know there's another forum for maintaining these unique vehicles. I've been Vdub crazy since age 20 and have owned numerous type 1 & 2 VWs. Traveled across North America three times solo in my 1971 Deluxe. I spent the first eight years of my marriage restoring a 1972-1/2 1302LS and after many show wins, had to sell it because both children are hard on it. Got an itch for a Bus, watched and waited and got a barn find 1977 Champagne Edition I that had been in a barn in down-state Delaware. 12 years of sitting is going to mean a lot of replacement parts, and the inevitable front window metal replacement. But this was bought as a driver, not something that I'm going to scream if one of the kids puts a baseball through a window. I've got lots of questions about the 1975-1979 UK and Eurospec Bus, especially the difference by country and the use of the Type1 engine as an option. Cheers, Marshall
Welcome, you will find a whole load of helpful peeps on here but one thing is a must & thats get some pics up so we can have a look at your barn find ;D Robo...
Well not much to look at now, and some berk painted over the brown lower half, but here's what I've got, as found. Pardon the Harley cover; that really isn't my style.
Are you planning to come back to the folds of the Agate Brown?..... there is a guy on here with a CE 1 in lovely, but damp, condition.
The bay behind is a 1976 Automatic Camper. I inquired about it from the shop owner and was told (kindly) that the owner just had it in for brake work and very much knew what he had. That's fine. But I can't help but ask. I don't thrill to the wing mirrors, but that was what came with it, so I'll live with them while I put the ride on the road. I like the CE1 color scheme: I believe that brown/white was one of the prettiest (and subtle) combos they offered at the time. But on the road has to come before paint. And the Bus' name is Ferdinand. Not the Porsche one, the Bull. Cheers, M
