Got no power going to my coil

  1. Hi there just put new engine in and tried to start it and it wouldn't start not even trying to so I took no1 spark plug out and it turns out I have got no spark done the norm it's had new plugs dizzy coil it turns out there's no power going to my coil could it be a dirty fuse as it's been in a dusty work shop for a while cheers any info would be great

  2. There's no fuse on the ignition circuit, so unlikely to be that.

Got no 12V at the black coil supply lead? If no, my be wiring or ignition switch.

  3. I have got 3 wires coming out of loom 1 goes to my electric choke and the black one has a fuse holder with a 8 amp fuse which goes to the live feed on my coil and a gray sort of colour which goes to my coil just put a amp meter on them the black one had power the choke wire has 12 volts but the thin grey one has nothing

  4. The thickest black one should go to the coil +ve. Other wires off the coil +ve (possibly black) should go to the choke and the carb cutoff valve. Try that.

If the engine springs to life, connect the further wire (with the fuse holder) to coil +ve - this one powers your reversing lights.

  5. Has any one got a pic of there wireing to the coil for a type 4 engine plz just so I can make sure it's connected properly cheers

The grey one is for the computer socket and goes on -ve or cut it off as it does nothing useful.
As snotty says black from look is supply to coil +ve. There shouldn't be a fuse.
If you have another black with an in line fuse it shouldn't be part of the loom and should run seperately to the revese switch on your gearbox.
The choke and fuel cut-off solenoid should be on-fed from the +ve coil terminal, not directly from the loom. You've got a bit mixed up.

  7. Hi there just had look at wireing and I have got a thicker black wire a blue wire that comes out of the loom and a brown wire as well at the mo the blue colour wire is connected to my oil presure switch Is that right the thick black wire has to go to my coil what about the brown wire that has no power coming out of it god no,s what the last owner has done the engine used to be a 1800 injection now running carbs

  9. Hi there I think the brown wire should go to the oil switch as this should be a earth so nearly there the blue colour wire is proberly the wire to the computer you were saying about and the thick black wire to the coil then make a wire up for the choke that should be about right I hope

  10. Agreed! I also fused the carb feeds when I put my engine back last year, had a minor fire previously due to ageing wires to carb shorting...

Not quite right, the blue (with green stripe) is the oil pressure switch.
Brown has me stumped, there shouldn't be one, I think perhaps the end of another wire has been repaired with brown. On your bus brown is always earth, but of course brown being live in one's house causes some people to use this colour for live when they replace wires. You'll need to follow it back a bit and see what's what. likely you'll find the join in the engine bay somewhere.
Likewise Black is always live 12v feed
