Been browsing around the forums for a while but never posted - thought it was time I said hello. I have recently become the owner of a 79 bay window, am currently trying to get my head around all the bits and pieces that need doing! Couple of pics attached - if anyone fancies contributing I'm in the process of deciding what to do with my saggy roof...it looks to me like a pre-75 Devon top fitted to a '79 van, and I also think that at some point the original aluminium lid has been replaced with this fiberglass lid (which bows and therefore holds water!) Any thoughts? Cheers, HENDROS
Hi rickyroo, you're dead right I'd say, there is a thread on the forum someone which shows where someone has put in some aluminium cross bars to keep the roof straight but struggling to find it now, might even bolster it up an inch or so in the middle to bow the other way as you say so the water runs off. I've got to replace the bellows when the weather is reliable enough anyway so will enlist some friends to help me lift the top off and get some struts placed then I think.
So many welcomes so soon - thanks for making me feel welcome everyone, looking forward to getting going. Love all the help and photos you can find on here, helps to know that someone has been there & done it all before!
Good afternoon everyone from Surrey (forgot to say where I am - I live about 2 miles from where VolksWorld is held )
