  1. To speak the language helps even if it is basic or have a phone number where someone can interpretate a garage owner telling you need a rotule...

  2. Le AH AH(The AA)'s number

Best hang it over the sit then it can be seen and you won't get pulled over if they can see it.

Having equipment than can detect radar guns/cameras is an offence in France.

  4. Vehicle specific - basically you are driving an old van, it is unlikley the average breakdown bod or local garage will have parts for your van hence:

Buy yourself one of the Machine 7 ignition bundles http://www.machine7.com/section.php?xSec=2376&xPage=3 , a fuel pump, accelerator and clutch cables, spare bulbs, my old faves , box of matches, terminal block connectors, few nuts, bolts, screws, some old cable (old accelerator etc will do) candle wax, small bit of grease, Gallon of oil, cardboard, pencil, spanners - decent ones, 8,10,11,13,14,15,16,17,18mm, mo grips, adjustable spanner, phillips and flat blade screwdrivers, sandpaper, wirewool and some tin foil. Thats it! Oh tyre pump!

  5. E111 - that's the medical coverage card to help you get care when in the EU.

Apart from parts , tools , reflective jackets, light bulb set, triangle, spare oil.

A T2D suggestion - buy a set of spare parts for the ignition and fit them before you go. Then you know that the ones in the bus at the moment are working and the spares may be a bit grubby but they also definitely work. Of course they sell them ....

A useful electrical tool : I was sold a Sealey Automotive Tester at that T2D boot camp. It turns out to be a quick way to check electrics - can hot wire power or ground to e.g. brake lights and check for voltage on the bulbs. The multimeter often stays in the box.

Socket set with a set of hex drivers, Good ratchet crimp tool , box of crimp terminals and some insulated wire of various thickness.

Check out any Low Emission Zones en-route e.g. Germany . Basically you have to leave the bus in the outskirts and take the bus or tram into the city as there is no way a T2 passes any Euro emissions standards.

I insured with Adrian Flux via JK and they provide overseas breakdown cover. But only when combined with new policies or at renewal. So I ended up dumping the previous policy and taking out a new one with the extra cover. Because it was only three months to the end of the old policy they didnt give me anything back,.

  9. That's a good point. Out of fear of prosecution, Tomtom removed the locations last year as my old phone still has them (not updated) but the new one doesn't.

  10. Christ that's something I'd never have thought about!!

  13. Although as the Germans blocked the EU information sharing Bill, the French have no way of catching up with you unless they actually stop you in the act. They aren't allowed to get info from DVLA. :)

And you don't need to pay for them from the NHS, some companies offer them with extra services that's just a scam.
