God, I hate fencing

  1. Grunty enough if you've got a clear run, but worse if someone's planted trees in the meantime and used RMC's entire annual output to hold the existing posts up ...

I gave it up after standing with my arm raised, hand held slightly askew above my head and some posh French bloke asking if I was touché

  7. I used to do it at school, as one of the teachers was mad on it. I'll admit holding a limp wrist up did make me feel a bit exposed. I can still adopt the position <insert innuendo here>...

Re the other fencing...I've just discovered Postcrete. It's amazing. Why did nobody tell me about this stuff years ago?

  8. Who fitted that mask for you? I'd take it back...

  9. Postcrete? Jeez thats been around years, used 3 bags of it yesterday.
I hate digging holes, squeezed between a beech hedge and a pyracantha replacing a fence for a friend, oh joy!

  10. Dont forget, no Postcrete under the post, only rubble otherwise it fills with water and quickly rots

  11. It's my new discovery :). Small pleasures in life.

As you say, no fun doing it with stuff growing all around you...

  12. We have a long garden fortunately / unfortunately! Just had to replace entire fence, could have done this myself but would have taken forever, got a team in £2000 !

  13. Fencing hookey gear? Gumtree innit :)

  14. How long was your run? Fence on our other side blew down last year, still got to have that done. Considering close-boarded instead of crappy larch-lap (which has blown down twice before).

  18. Bet you say that to all the sheep :)

  19. close boarded last a lot longer, as long as it's pressure treated. I did about 25m a few months back...buying the rails, posts, gravel boards etc. to make up your own panels will save you a fair bit, but if you can afford to pay someone else to do it, go with that. It's hard physical work and not something I'd reccommend doing on your own...

  20. Mine was £900 for fitting 9 close board panels and new concrete posts to replace the old larch lap and wooden posts that were blown down
