Germany Trip

  1. Just got back from a trip around Germany.

Tilly had quite a bit of work done to her before she left, general checks and all of that, brake checks new steering Pin and damper, glad that was changed some of the overtaking on the autobahns was a bit hairy.
Left home near Cambridge via Dover Dunkirk midnight ferry drove to Wurzburg Northern Bavaria, then to Hameln, Pied Piper Place, onto Walsrode, north of Hanover, back down to Munster then to the Sorpesee.
Up to Grafrath near Venlo then onto Ghent and back via Dunkirk to home.
Total Miles 1750 and 308.68 litres of fuel about 26 MPG.
Breakdowns? what are those, I changed the coil in Hameln, due to an occasional slight misfire under load , still got it.
Had an overheating right hand rear brake but a good ex military type got me the loan of a 46mm spanner to let me check the bearings, all in order so backed off brake, problem solved.
On some of the hills on overrun I noted some oily smoke a couple of times nothing special nothing excessive only used 1 liter of oil to top up.
There are some great campsites in Germany, and an excellent one in Ghent, I will list some later, some lacked a few basics like toilet paper but all in all pretty good.
One recommendation is take an international plug, no not for your DVD or mobile charger but for the washroom sinks.
We travelled off the autobahns some of the time but used them for the long legs, never went more than 100 KPH, spent most of the time at and around 80 - 90 KPH.
We had a great two weeks. Tilly was warm and comfy, and the awning gave us that extra living space. The food was good and the beer was better. My navigator did a fine job working along side of the sat nav,we parted company with the sat nav in Belgium, kept freezing up so it is in a bin in Ghent, my other navigator made it home, Inge did a good job.
    Will post some pictures later.
