Geek question - please help!

  1. Hey all

Sorry I've not been around much, setting up own business and mental busy.

Please help with a very geeky question

I'm trying to source a locking unit mech for a 76 RHD slider. The part is 224 843 653 A and lovely @oxy-jon has the same number part with a B instead of an A

I know this denotes a change VW made to the part, but my question is whether in this instance it's enough of a difference for the part to be useless to me?

Need to get a replacement super super quick, got a festival to get to on Friday!

Thanks in advance for all help, lovely people

  2. I have no idea......but hope you are well!

  3. Probably not. @vwed might know.
It might be that one is for a Kombi and one is for a microbus and has a slightly different lock catch or something similarly obscure.

  4. exact number only will fit yours ,been there done that

  5. You're right that a change in suffix denotes a physical change in the part.
Strangely the A lock is for August '73 onwards and the B lock is for August '70 to end of July '73 - you'd expect it to be the other way round. Both locks apply to Panels/Kombis/Campers, so no issues there.
Without having both locks in front of me to compare, hard to know what the actual differences might be. The cables for the lock also changed at the above dates. Maybe you could get oxy-jon to send you photos or even the lock on a return basis.
