Any recommendations for someone in Essex/ Cambs/ Suffolk/ Herts area that could check over my gearbox? Bight the gearbox but don't want to stick it in and find its shot!? Recommendations if you've had any work done would be appreciated please. Thanks
Heard good things about cogbox not too far out of your search area http://www.cogboxtransmissions.com
Few things you can do at home in the following article http://www.ratwell.com/technical/091Transmission.html
There's a place near me, didn't I text you? You don't want to take it to stephens engineering then I'd stick it in with some fresh oil and then see what happens first. Or look at that linky @paradox has mentioned.
@Lardy it's like ground hog day with you fella, you put the same threads up and get the same answers I told you of a gearbox guy not too far from you months ago. Like Razzy said stick it in and fill up with fresh oil. Why pay someone to check it over when it could be fine, and ultimately save you some cash.
Cheers, I've been looking for someone more local that was all. Have already been looking at the page Para linked in but was more for piece of mind really to have the box checked over first.
I had mine rebuilt by cog box. They arranged collection and delivery from dubs and classics who fitted it for me with nice new linkages. Definitely recommend
Thanks, I appreciate that I've asked this and probably other questions previously however trying to find the comments is like trying to find a needle in a haystack on here. I'll give Cogbox a ring tomorrow and see what they reckon, maybe just having a chat with them will help decide what the best course of action will be. Any ideas on cost to rebuild if you don't mind me asking?
Can't fully remember but it was cheaper including transport cost sending to the by something like a couple of hundred plus they are not vat registered. I farted about buying a second hand box which turned out duff so in the end had to bite the bullet. Was about 600 all in maybe just under but to be honest it's worth it for piece of mind and doing once if intend on keeping it for sometime.
