Gear shift selector plate

  1. Struggling to find 2nd gear mainly hitting reverse when first driving, going to try adjust quickshifter plate and then replace gearshift plate if need to are any better than others ?? :)
Is it worth looking at replacing gearbox oil as have never done this before ?? :)
Engine 1600 type 1 and I think gearbox is a 2 litre from what previous owner told me.

  2. Do you mean the stop plate under the gearshift? That's likely to be the cause of your probs. Change the gearbox oil anyway - it's probably been in there since 1856. Easy enough to do. Unlikely you've got a 2 litre box, I'd think. A 1600 won't have enough grunt for the ratios.

  3. before you drop the oil out make sure you can undo the filler plug

the 3 crispies and paradox like this.
  4. [IMG]guessing one of these cant find thread but if I remember lip wears, shorter side on reverse side ???

    1. That is the plate that stops you going into reverse. Tabs upwards, long "ski jump" on the right-hand side. Remove any other "quick shift" kit and throw it over the hedge. Adjust and relax.
