Gear linkage

  1. I though while the noisy cupboard is empty...

Can you drop the gearbox enough to get the linkage out and do the bushes without undoing the CV joints?...

Or is it just the front bush (if that's not an invitation for a comment...) and coupler that usually need doing. I seem to remember new rod bushes being rubbish when we did the tintop.

Never tried it, but I wouldn’t bother personally. All the ones I have gone to the bother of taking out have still been in better fettle after 40+ years of use, than the Marmitee Ill fitting repro ones.

Just change the front bush and rear coupler and you will be fine.

  3. That was the way I was leaning after putting back the old bush when the new one snapped changing them on the last project...

always good to hear second opinions pushing you the way you were heading

I cannot see how the bushes along the shaft make a lot of difference. The front bushing and rear coupler seem to have the biggest effect on the quality of the gearchange .
